[소셜밸류=박완규 기자] ASET announced that it has signed an MOU with UBATT for technical cooperation on core materials for next-generation secondary batteries.
The purpose of this partnership is to promote the PoC of oxide-polymer composite electrolyte membrane technology, applicable to lithium-ion secondary batteries and lithium-metal-based next-generation batteries, and to jointly commercialize the technology.
ASET’s composite electrolyte membrane technology minimizes the use of liquid electrolytes and replaces separators, drastically mitigating safety concerns such as potential thermal runaway, internal short circuits, and fire risks associated with lithium-metal batteries.
These features are considered critical technologies in battery system for defense and military applications, as the industry demands resilience in extreme operational environments and higher safety standards. Additionally, they are gaining traction as core next-generation components that prioritize safety, such as defense-grade batteries, high-reliability power systems and high-energy-density batteries.
Both companies will cooperate in stages to ▲ jointly conduct PoCs for the commercialization of composite electrolytes, ▲ share research and project equipment, ▲ collaborate on technical commercialization, ▲ promote expansion in both domestic and international markets, and ▲ establish a joint technology partnership for global business development in accordance with the agreement.
While ASET leads the development of core components for next-generation batteries through enhanced composite solid electrolyte membrane technologies and optimized processing, UBATT takes charge of conducting PoCs in defense and a special-purpose battery fields, leveraging its expertise in battery cell and system design and operation.
Officials from both companies stated, “The partnership will serve as a turning point, enhancing safety and trust in defense-grade and lithium-metal batteries while going beyond the simple implementation of next-generation battery technologies. With composite electrolyte membrane technology, we are committed to securing a competitive edge in the next-generation battery market.”
Meanwhile, ASET and UBATT will accelerate the commercialization of high-safety, high-energy battery systems while fostering a next-generation secondary battery technology ecosystem in alignment with the agreement.
