[소셜밸류=박완규 기자] On the 31st, Streaming House announced that it had signed an MOU with Minerva University on 27th to promote learncation.
For the past few years, ‘workcation’ (a combination of Work and Vacation) has been in the spotlight for connecting businesses and regions to increase regional living populations by promoting ESG initiatives, and for its role as a working culture, building a new growth model.
Businesses in Korea also proactively adopted workcation with the transition in working environment since COVID-19. In particular, civil servants from the government have also started taking workcation this year, contributing to the expansion of the regional living population and promoting a new growth model.
Recently, ‘learncation’ is gaining attention. A combination of learning and vacation, it is emerging as another regional growth model that connects students with local communities.
Founded in 2020, Streaming House is a workcation-oriented startup, providing the ‘The Hyuil’ workcation service to approximately 1,000 companies through collaboration with around 50 local governments.
Since establishment in 2012, Minerva University has been known for its innovative education model, with students around the globe taking lectures across seven different countries. It has been recognized as the world’s number one most innovative university by the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) for three consecutive years since 2022, cooperating with promising global businesses such as Netflix.
Shin Dong Hoon, the CEO of Streaming House, said, “We have been working hard to incorporate workcation culture into businesses and local government for the past few years. If the ultimate goal of workcation is to promote the revitalization of regions by connecting businesses with local communities, the core of learncation would be increasing the living population by connecting students with local communities and creating a new lifestyle that brings in more residents to the region by understanding the areas.”
The CEO also said, “We’ve been making a preparation since last year. Through discussions with Minerva University, we were able to find common ground. The MOU creates opportunities to develop a relatively new learncation culture together.”
Kim Eun Jeong, the director from Minerva University Strategic Planning Department, said, “Students from Minerva University live across seven countries including Korea, Japan, Germany, Argentina and India. They are collaborating with local businesses and governments.”
Also, the director added, “The class involves engaging in discussions with professors who are responsible for the project. They also learn about the local culture and work together to find solutions for local issues. True, learncation may still be a new trend for both students and local communities. However, we believe it will make Minerva University’s innovative approach to education more meaningful.”
